IBM Ceph Specialist
Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented IBM Ceph Specialist to join our client's IT infrastructure team. The primary responsibility of this role is to design, install, and configure a new IBM Ceph cluster from scratch, ensuring seamless replication of data from an existing Ceph cluster. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in IBM Storage Ceph, a strong understanding of software-defined storage solutions, and hands-on experience with cluster deployment, data replication, and system optimization. This role requires collaboration with storage administrators, network engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure the cluster meets performance, scalability, and reliability requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cluster Installation and Configuration:
- Design and deploy a new IBM Ceph cluster from the ground up, utilizing IBM Storage Ceph software on commodity hardware or IBM-certified systems.
- Bootstrap the cluster using tools such as cephadm and configure core components including Monitors (MONs), Object Storage Daemons (OSDs), and RADOS Gateway (RGW) as needed.
- Set up networking, storage pools, and CRUSH rules to optimize data distribution and redundancy.
- Data Replication:
- Assess the existing Ceph cluster’s architecture, data structure, and replication policies.
- Implement and configure replication mechanisms (e.g., RBD mirroring, CephFS snapshots, or object storage sync) to migrate and synchronize data from the existing cluster to the new cluster.
- Ensure data integrity, consistency, and minimal downtime during the replication process.
- System Integration and Testing:
- Integrate the new cluster with existing infrastructure, including hybrid cloud environments, virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, OpenShift), or other enterprise systems.
- Conduct thorough testing of the new cluster’s performance, scalability, and fault tolerance, including failover and recovery scenarios.
- Validate successful data replication and resolve any discrepancies or errors.
- Monitoring and Optimization:
- Configure the Ceph Dashboard for real-time monitoring and management of the new cluster.
- Fine-tune cluster parameters (e.g., replication factor, placement groups, storage policies) to meet workload-specific requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to cluster performance, latency, or data availability
